AviSense Selected for The Digital Gate V to Pilot AI-Powered Airport Safety Solutions with Athens International Airport
NewsAviSense has been selected for The Digital Gate V, the open innovation programme of Athens International Airport and ACE/AUEB, and will proceed with the development and pilot implementation of its AI-powered airport situational awareness platform in real airport conditions.
The Digital Gate is a pilot-driven open innovation programme designed to connect innovative startups and research-driven teams with real operational challenges at Athens International Airport. Through the programme, selected teams gain the opportunity to work closely with airport executives, operational experts and ACE mentors to refine, adapt and test their solutions in a real airport environment.
AviSense was selected among the seven teams that will move forward to the pilot implementation phase of The Digital Gate V. This phase focuses on developing and testing pilot applications under real airport conditions, in close collaboration with Athens International Airport and the ACE support network.
For AviSense, this selection represents an important milestone in the company’s journey from deep-tech innovation to real-world operational deployment. It provides the opportunity to validate the company’s AI, multi-source sensing and XR-based decision-support technologies in one of the most demanding and safety-critical operational environments: the airport.
AviSense will work on a focused airport safety and operational awareness pilot, applying its platform to enhance visibility, coordination and early risk recognition in complex airport environments. The solution combines data from multiple sources and uses Artificial Intelligence to support airport safety and operational efficiency.
The company’s platform transforms visual, spatial and sensor data into real-time operational intelligence. By combining AI-driven perception, multi-source fusion, geospatial reasoning and XR-based guidance, AviSense helps operators and field teams better understand dynamic environments, detect hidden or emerging risks and respond faster with confidence.
In the airport context, this approach can support improved situational awareness in areas where people, vehicles, equipment and infrastructure interact continuously. The project has officially started with its kick-off meeting, bringing together European partners to shape the future of multimodal XR experiences.

XR-SENSE aims to advance the next generation of Extended Reality technologies by going beyond today’s primarily visual and audio-based immersive systems. The project focuses on the integration of visual and haptic information, enabling more realistic, interactive and inclusive XR experiences where users can not only see and hear virtual environments, but also perceive meaningful tactile and physical feedback.
The project will explore new methods for representing, coding, processing and interactively rendering visuo-haptic XR content in real time. This includes technologies for immersive media, human-centred interaction, multimodal sensing, haptic feedback, user-state modelling and adaptive XR experiences.
For AviSense, participation in XR-SENSE is strongly aligned with the company’s mission to develop AI-driven and XR-enabled technologies that improve situational awareness, safety and decision-making in complex environments.
Within the project, AviSense will contribute its expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Extended Reality, geospatial intelligence, cooperative perception and human-centred visualisation. The programme is an open-innovation initiative designed to support promising startups and technology-driven ventures in transforming innovative ideas into impactful businesses. Through the StartUp Acceleration Program, Deloitte provides selected startups with expert mentorship, strategic guidance, consulting support and access to a wider network of industry leaders, investors and innovation stakeholders.
The 3rd Cycle of the programme was launched under the theme “Investing in Technology and Entrepreneurship for a Better Future” and attracted a strong pool of applications from innovative teams and companies. Following a competitive evaluation process, seven finalists pitched live in front of an evaluation committee, and three startups were selected to join the programme: AviSense, Anthestos Pharmaceuticals and FindYourSpace.
Participation in Deloitte’s StartUp Acceleration Program will support AviSense in further refining its business strategy, market readiness, value proposition and commercialisation roadmap. The six-month programme offers access to Deloitte experts, tailored mentoring and consulting services, helping selected startups mature their business models and prepare for stronger market engagement.
This collaboration is especially meaningful for AviSense, as Brainzone is based in Patras, a city with a strong academic, research and innovation ecosystem. AviSense Selected under REINFORCING with the TRUST-AI Project
NewsAviSense has been selected under the REINFORCING programme through TRUST-AI – Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Mobility Systems, a project focused on embedding ethical, transparent and responsible AI practices into mobility technologies and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
The selected project, TRUST-AI – Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence for Mobility Systems, is led by AviSense in collaboration with InterMediaKT, combining technical expertise in AI-based mobility systems with strong experience in citizen engagement, digital inclusion and participatory innovation.
TRUST-AI addresses a critical challenge for the future of intelligent mobility: how to ensure that AI systems used in vehicles, driver assistance technologies and mobility decision-support tools are not only technically accurate, but also transparent, inclusive, explainable and aligned with societal values.
As Artificial Intelligence becomes increasingly embedded in mobility systems, important questions arise around algorithmic bias, data representativeness, transparency, accountability, privacy and human oversight. These issues are especially important in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and safety-critical mobility applications, where AI-based decisions may influence how vehicles, users and operators perceive and respond to road situations.
Through TRUST-AI, AviSense and InterMediaKT aim to bridge the gap between high-level ethical AI principles and practical technical deployment. The project will contribute to the development of a Responsible Design Toolkit and an Open and Responsible Research and Innovation Strategy Framework for AI-enhanced mobility systems.
A central part of the project is citizen and stakeholder engagement. TRUST-AI will involve citizens, local stakeholders, SMEs and public-sector actors in structured dialogue around trust, transparency, fairness and explainability in AI-based mobility. This participatory approach will help ensure that future mobility technologies reflect real societal concerns, user expectations and human values.

AviSense at Smart City Expo World Congress 2025 Showcasing XRay Mobility and the Future of Safer Urban Movement

During the event, we presented a live demonstration of XRay Mobility, our AR-powered cooperative perception technology designed to eliminate blind spots, improve situational awareness, and enhance safety across urban mobility environments.
Using only a static camera, a lightweight server, and our custom XR rendering engine, we showcased how real-time pedestrian detection and spatial insights can be instantly shared with operators, vehicles, and XR devices.
This demonstration also integrated research outcomes from the AutoTRUST project, where we are advancing trustworthy, explainable, multimodal perception and cooperative intelligence for the mobility systems of tomorrow.
We are deeply grateful for the support of EIT Urban Mobility, which enabled us to present, connect, and scale our work within Europe’s leading smart-city innovation ecosystem.

AviSense in Madrid for 6G-XR Field Trials at 5TONIC
NewsBetween 15 and 17 October, our team from AviSense.ai traveled to Madrid to participate in field trials at the 5TONIC testbed, as part of the 6G-XR project.
Within the framework of SafeDriveXR – “Robotic Autonomous Agents with Cognitive Enhancements over 6G”, we successfully tested and validated key components of our 5G/6G-enabled system, which integrates Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) with Extended Reality (XR) interfaces for Connected and Automated Vehicles (CAVs).
Our objective is to enhance road safety by enabling real-time XR visualizations of traffic, road conditions, and potential hazards — improving driver awareness, decision-making, and response times.
The 5TONIC trials (South Node of the 6G-XR Facilities) represent a major milestone in demonstrating low-latency communication, edge-cloud coordination, and adaptive XR interfaces responsive to user context.
We’re proud to contribute to Europe’s vision for Cooperative, Connected, and Automated Mobility (CCAM), and deeply grateful to our partners and the 6G-XR community for their collaboration and support throughout this phase of the project.
